5 Things You Didn’t Know About Sport Cards

Article by Rod Low

If you’re a sports fan, chances are pretty good you collected trading cards as a kid. You might recall spending your allowance on a pack of baseball cards with stale, pink gum at the corner store. You’d tear open the packs in search of your favorite star, then trade with your friends or carefully slide a few cards between the spokes of your bicycle wheel and listen to them click as you pedaled.

If you were a card collector, you probably had binders full of the carefully sorted cardboard gems lying around your room — until you discovered girls. Once the fairer sex was on the scene, the cards went to the garage sale, attic or trash.

In the years since you got rid of your cards without a second thought, the industry has boomed. Though prices have skyrocketed, trading cards have never been more popular.

Here are 5 things you didn’t know about sports cards. However, be warned: After hearing how far the hobby has come, you might want to stop on the way home and pick up a pack or two.

1- The value of rookie cards is artificially inflated

There’s little argument that Wayne Gretzky is the best hockey player to lace up skates, and his 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee rookie card sells between 0 and 0. Sidney Crosby may be billed as the best thing since The Great One, but he’s got a lot to prove. Still, Sidney Crosby’s 2005-06 Upper Deck The Cup rookie card sells at more than ,000. We’ve got nothing against Crosby, but the fact that a largely unproven star’s rookie card can sell at more than 10 times the value of Wayne Gretzky’s is mind-boggling.

It all comes down to supply and demand. In the late 1990s, card companies introduced serial numbering, the antidote to mass-produced cards such as Gretzky’s rookie. Cards were printed in limited quantities and stamped with a unique number. Only 99 copies exist of Crosby’s The Cup card, meaning if you want The Next One’s top rookie, be prepared to pay for it.

2- Babe Ruth is still signing cards

If you pulled an autographed card from a pack in the late 1980s or early 1990s, you’d tell everyone you knew. Now, autographed cards are so popular, often with one or more per box (and in some sets, one per pack) that they hardly seem exciting anymore. What may have you calling your friends, however, is finding an autographed card of a deceased athlete.

To create these “cut” autograph cards, card companies purchase authentic autographs of sports stars, often off of paperwork or void checks from the deceased athlete’s estate, then cut out the player’s signature and glue it into a new card. So even though Babe Ruth has been dead since 1948, it’s possible to get his autograph in a 2008 product — and that goes for more of the game’s greats, such as Ty Cobb, Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams, to name a few.

3- Barack Obama has a baseball card

No, the probable future U.S. President didn’t have a short stint in the Big Leagues. Card companies have reacted to the popularity of politics in American society, and political figures have begun to appear on special insert cards. This year’s Upper Deck baseball includes a Presidential Predictor insert set, featuring cards of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and others.

Taking the popularity of game-used memorabilia cards a step further, some relic cards in recent years have included swatches cut straight out of American history. It’s possible to get a card that includes a small square of cloth from one of John F. Kennedy’s suits or a card containing a piece of George W. Bush’s necktie.

Other American legends (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, etc.) are represented with memorabilia cards in today’s products. It may seem odd to get a Marilyn Monroe card in a pack of baseball cards, but these rare inserts are hot sellers among history buffs.

4- Celebrity body parts are now for sale

Topps created industry waves in 2007 when it produced three cards, each containing a strand of hair from former President George Washington. The card company got the hair from John Reznikoff, the owner of the largest collection of hair from historical figures. Despite the shock of many collectors and average citizens alike (and the disturbing wishes of some people to track down the cards so they could try to clone Washington through DNA strands), Topps’ products created a stir and collectors responded by showing there is indeed a market for these bizarre, yet intriguing, collectibles.

Topps acknowledges that DNA cards are hard to make because of the difficulty of tracking down strands of hair from deceased public figures, but the idea has already caught on. The hot insert in this year’s Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts baseball cards is a Hair Cuts series — cards that contain cut autographs and a strand of hair from figures such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Babe Ruth, Andrew Jackson, and Geronimo.

A Topps 2008 baseball product contains cards with hair from not only Abe Lincoln, but also JFK and Beethoven.

5- Your son’s allowance won’t get him far in the hobby

If you collected a couple decades ago, you’ll remember when Upper Deck products hit store shelves in 1990 at the seemingly exorbitant price of per pack. Almost overnight, gone were the days of 25 and 50 cent packs of cards that contained a piece of pink gum for good measure. The price of consumer goods has risen over the last couple decades with inflation, but card prices have risen because of the increased demand as the hobby boomed.

With very few exceptions, packs of cards are at least and some high-end products cost more than 0 per pack — not box but per pack. And those packs might contain as few as five cards. What, did you think you’d find that ,000 Sidney Crosby card in a pack that cost ?

Each sport only features a couple 99 cents per pack brands each season, which means youths with allowance money to spend don’t have much of a chance of delving into the hobby. Adults with more disposable income, however, have a wide variety of choices.

This Week at Fantasy Baseball World

Article by Fantasy Factor

The first big domino has fallen in this week’s countdown to the MLB trade deadline. The Cardinals, White Sox and Blue Jays have reportedly completed a three-team deal, with OF Colby Rasmus, 3B Mark Teahen and relievers going to Toronto; SP Edwin Jackson, OF Corey Patterson and a collection of relievers heading to St. Louis; and pitchers Jason Frasor and Zach Stewart on their way to Chicago. Let’s push aside the main real baseball ramiification – that the Cardinals gave up a very talented 24-year-old outfielder for, well, not much – and focus on the fantasy sports fallout.

Blue Jays: Rasmus will almost certainly start in center field, and I’m betting on a big “Eff You, Tony La Russa!” second half from him; AL-only owners should empty their FAAB budgets for Rasmus. Rajai Davis is the logical choice to lose playing time, and when Brett Lawrie gets promoted, Edwin Encarnacion is a near-lock to do the same. The final outcome should be a Rasmus-Eric Thames-Jose Bautista outfield, with Travis Snider DHing and Lawrie at third base. Snider and/or Thames could take small hits in playing time. Teahen appears to be a nice, versatile backup with no fantasy value.

The Jays also apparently acquired relievers Brian Tallet, Trever Miller and P.J. Walters in this deal. Zzz ….

Cardinals: Now that La Russa has won his staredown with Rasmus, the Cards have a Matt Holliday-Jon Jay-Lance Berkman outfield, with Patterson around to provide late-inning speed and defense. Jay’s now-steadier playing time makes him mixed-league worthy. Jackson is likely to replace Kyle McClellan in the Cardinals’ rotation, and he’s been pitching well lately. Jackson’s power, ground-ball arsenal and pitching coach/genius Dave Duncan are a match made in heaven, and I’ll be looking to grab E-Jax in mixed leagues.

The Cardinals now have some new setup men in Octavio Dotel and Marc Rzepczynski, but they’re only worth your while in deep NL-only leagues.

White Sox: With Jackson gone, Philip Humber can now rejoin the rotation after a temporary banishment to the bullpen. Brent Morel has a more solid hold on the starting job at third base in the wake of Teahen’s departure. Frasor will join the setup corps, while Stewart might compete for a rotation slot in 2012. He’s a back-of-the-rotation guy, though.

As more trades happen, we will be back with more of the fantasy fallout. We will give more tips and news about fantasy baseball as everybody loves to play it.

Using Conscious Creation To Improve Your Life

Article by Wendy Betterini

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Idle hands are the devil’s tools” — meaning if you don’t have something to keep you busy, you’re likely to get into trouble. That can be argued of course, since the intent to cause trouble probably has to be present also.

However, the concept itself does hold some truth regarding what we create in our lives. If it’s true that we get back what we put out (into the universe), then it’s easy to see why “idle hands” would be a bad thing for us. Life on this planet is an exercise in creating our own reality. Moment to moment, we are making decisions. Whether we act or don’t act, we are putting forth our intent.

Every action has a consequence, either good or bad. Remember the concept, “like attracts like.” Imagine that every bit of energy you put out is traveling the universe, gathering similar energy, and eventually being returned right back to you. It makes you think more carefully about what type of energy you are putting out every day, doesn’t it? If we do nothing, we get nothing back (or at least nothing very good). Our lives become boring, empty shells. The very act of not moving, not doing, not creating causes stagnation.

Does that mean that as long as we keep busy, we’ll have lots of prosperity and joy? Not necessarily. Remember that we need to focus our intent on what we’re creating. We need to engage in the act of conscious creation every day, putting out positive, purposeful energy. What we get back is more positive energy, more abundance and more joy.

Conscious creation means thinking about what you want to do with your time, moment to moment. There are 24 hours in a day — 1,440 minutes — 86,400 seconds. Some of it has to be put aside for work, sleep, family, errands, housework, and the like. What are you doing with the rest of that time? Are you wasting it on mindless pursuits, or focusing it into purposeful activities? I’m not referring to just hobbies here, either. This is a process that can be applied to every aspect of our lives. Whether we have a lot of time to devote to hobbies or not doesn’t matter. What matters is that we consciously focus our intent on building our circumstances, one minute at a time.

Some of us live our lives on autopilot. It’s not that we don’t want to do anything, we just don’t know what to do. We have no direction, no passion, no purpose to work toward. We get up each morning, go to work, come home and lose ourselves in the television for the rest of the night. In the process, we are creating more of the same stagnant energy. If this describes you, it’s time to shake things up! Develop some passions. Get excited about something. Turn your idle hands into busy hands and create something magical. The very act of moving will put energies into motion and begin pulling more favorable circumstances into your life.

Keep in mind this is a cumulative process and it takes time to fully transform your circumstances. One day of activity and purpose won’t change everything around. Remember that you probably have months or years of stagnant energy built up that has resulted in your life the way it is today. By consistently working at it and keeping that positive energy in motion, it will begin to feed on itself and create even more positivity.

US Federal Credit Cards Are Being Misused

Article by Sarah Othman

The United States Government have come under fire recently for being too liberal when allocating expense credit cards to employees and has also been criticised for not clamping down sufficiently on their misuse. Allegedly people working for the Department of Veteran Affairs in particular have been using government credit cards to pay for luxury hotels, cinema trips, expensive meals in restaurants and casino bills. Reportedly there were 3.1 million purchases made last year which totalled .6 billion dollars, although the majority of this was appropriate spending.

This month the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said that they would accept the help which was offered to them by congress in order to address the issue. They may choose to pass a new bill which will allow them to fire employees for ‘egregious abuse of government credit cards.’ Cases where employees are suspected of fraud might also be passed on to federal prosecutors.

In a statement published on washingtonpost.com the deputy director of federal management issues at the OMB said: “The vast majority of civilian employees, government employees, use the cards responsibly. At the same time, I would say there is abuse, and the goal is zero, and we need to make it zero.”

An investigative report released this month revealed that some government employees had used their expense account credit cards to buy cameras, laptop computers, high-end suits, lingerie and iPods. Previous reports also list baseball tickets, jewellery, cell phones and unbelievably, even escort services. One case shockingly included breast enhancement surgery for the employee’s girlfriend. These issues are from a current investigation but a non-profit group called Project on Government Oversight which investigates governmental corruption said that they had flagged up the very same problem as long ago as 2002.

According to Stephen Barr the Federal Diarist: “In general, the “purchase card” programs were set up to permit employees to buy as much as ,500 worth of goods and services that are necessary and reasonable for the operation of their agencies. The government contracts with five banks for credit cards in exchange for favorable interest rates and rebates. In fiscal 2007, the banks provided the government with more than 0 million in refunds.”

The report also said that there are many different kinds of government credit cards. The cards focussed on in the report were ‘purchase cards’ which carry the employee’s names and the bills are sent to agencies for payment. Employees are expected to reimburse these agencies for any purchases which are not considered acceptable government spending but rarely are employees questioned on suspicious items.

One example of this is a Navy employee who bought more than 0 dollars of office stationary supplies, including a 0 dollar digital camera and an iPod worth 0 dollars. Both the employee and the official who sanctioned his request said they both had no recollection of purchasing or processing these items. When the authorities asked whether these items had been converted to personal use or stolen, the Navy responded that these items had not been reported and could therefore not be located. The estimated amount of purchases which were not properly authorised is allegedly 41%.

Why you MUST Accept Small Business Credit Cards

Article by trafficbonanza

When you’re a online business owner, the first thing to think about is your customers. Obviously making money is primary concern, but accepting credit cards online can help you focus on both areas. It doesn’t matter if you sell flowers, shoes, baseball equipment or pictures, because the way to purchase things online is by using credit cards. It’s something everyone is accustomed to doing today.

Over the past decade our society has become needy towards using credit cards online. It’s hard to believe that not too long ago everyone was writing checks, but with the abilities that revolve around debit cards today, that is just a thing of the past. This is why credit cards are so popular because they’re convenient. So if you have one you understand what we’re talking about today.

Seriously, think about all the big companies you see on the Internet today. Places like Ebay, Amazon, Clickbank, and several others all accept credit cards online. In fact, we can’t even name a smaller company who doesn’t collect their dough without using some sort of credit card service. Why? Well if they worked with only cash, money orders and checks, those companies would lose huge amounts of money to people who do accept credit cards.

It’s an essential part of any business today. Sure, you still have to think about customer service, possible inventory, and many other facets of the business, but this here is a crucial step. Basically your main goal is to give them the opportunity to pay as easily as possible. Then again, you’ll still want to give others those different opportunities to maximize your profits.

However, you may not want to spend so much time on money orders or checks. This can hinder a business owners bookkeeping abilities and make everything take longer. So even though you might lose a little bit of cash from not offering the traditional options, you may be able to make it up elsewhere.

One of the most popular places out there today is Paypal. They allow a business owner to accept credit cards online for a small fee, but without having to deal with the expensive costs of traditional methods. On a customer standpoint this is an easy way to process a sale. All they have to do is either login to their account, or click on the option you provide. You just need a secure website to do it on.

Seriously, you can’t blame anyone for being careful about their purchases online. Thanks to the constant identity theft out there, people are becoming more cautious about where they spend their money. So if you don’t use Paypal, we suggest getting a security certificate. However, if you do use the popular credit card payment processing company, they have a secure area all by themselves. Whatever the case may be you have to figure out what you would do if you purchased something online. Would you go to the site that isn’t reputable and wasn’t secure? Probably not, which is why all business owners should make this priority.

A Magic Pill of Our Own Making

Article by by Rachel D. Young

We’ve all seen those commercials on TV that warn of “stubborn belly fat” brought on by too much stress. The pills being hawked on these programs promise to block the stress hormone, cortisol.

Ever wonder if there’s any truth to what they’re saying?

Can women really get fat from being stressed? If you were to go without eating for an entire day, but were stressed out the entire time, does that mean you’d GAIN WEIGHT?

Sounds preposterous. But it’s TRUE!

The TruthCortisol is a corticosteroid hormone produced by the adrenal gland in your adrenal cortex. It’s your body’s modern-day answer to the “fight or flight” responses we had in reaction to stress (back when we were true hunters and gatherers).

Cortisol:-Increases blood pressure and blood sugar-Breaks down lipids and proteins (in case you’d rather ‘fight’ than ‘flight’)-Acts as a water diuretic hormone (leading to dehydration)-Physically eats away at the pleasure centers of the brain (producers of norepinephrine, epinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine)

So cortisol DOES exist and is indeed harmful to the body if left unchecked.

When do you feel stressed?Studies have shown that most women are more stressed than they truly know. In today’s modern economy, where women are becoming more likely to branch out on their own and start their own businesses, female entrepreneurs are often faced with multiple stress levels:

Child care, household finances, peace of mind, shared financial obligations with the spouse, and other such obstacles are creating more stress for women who own businesses.

Some symptoms of stress include:trouble sleeping headaches constipation diarrhea irritability lack of energy lack of concentration |eating too much or not at all anger sadness higher risk of asthma and arthritis flare-ups tension stomach cramping stomach bloating skin problems, like hives depression anxiety weight gain or loss heart problems high blood pressure irritable bowel syndrome diabetes neck and/or back pain less sexual desire harder to get pregnant

Before You Buy a Magic Pill Don’t place your order with the number on the bottom of your screen just yet…there’s a catch (isn’t there always?)

Most of these pills rely on dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a natural steroid hormone with calming affects on the central nervous system.

Possible Side Effects of DHEA:According to the Mayo Clinic’s website (mayoclinic.com), possible side effects include, but are not limited to:

- Nausea- Abdominal discomfort- Fatigue- Nasal congestion- Headache- Acne- Rapid/Irregular heartbeats.

But Wait, There’s More!Straight from Mayoclinic.com: “In women, the most common side effects are abnormal menses, emotional changes, headache, and insomnia.

Individuals with a history of abnormal heart rhythms, blood clots or hypercoagulability, and those with a history of liver disease should avoid DHEA supplements.

Because DHEA is a hormone related to other male and female hormones, there may be side effects related to its hormonal activities. For example, masculinization may occur in women, including acne, greasy skin, facial hair, hair loss, increased sweating, weight gain around the waist, or a deeper voice. Other hormonal-related side effects may include increased blood sugar levels, insulin resistance, altered cholesterol levels, altered thyroid hormone levels, and altered adrenal function. Caution is advised in patients with diabetes or hyperglycemia, high cholesterol, thyroid disorders, or other endocrine (hormonal) abnormalities. Serum glucose, cholesterol and thyroid levels may need to be monitored by a healthcare professional, and medication adjustments may be necessary.

In theory, DHEA may increase the risk of developing prostate, breast, or ovarian cancer. DHEA may contribute to tamoxifen resistance in breast cancer. Other side effects may include insomnia, agitation, delusions, mania, nervousness, irritability, or psychosis.

High DHEA levels have been correlated with Cushing’s syndrome, which may be caused by excessive supplementation.” (Source: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/dhea/NS_patient-dhea, Copyright 2008)In easy to understand terms…that’s turning women into men! And since when is CANCER a good trade-off for losing weight?

What Does It All Mean?Numero Uno – There’s no ‘magic pill’ that will get rid of the stress and block cortisol (without killing you in the process).

So what can you do to relieve stress, build antibodies, and get rid of fat all at the same time WITHOUT taking hours out of your day to drive to the gym, workout, shower, and get on with your life?

The Women’s Guide to Handling Stress Step 1: StretchThere’s nothing like a good, fifteen minute total-body workout that focuses on muscle toning and deep breathing to relinquish stress and help you lose weight – I’m talking about YOGA! And let’s face it, you’ve never seen a woman look like a muscle-y linebacker when she’s finished with her yoga session, have you? Who wants to risk even more with hidden dietary nightmares in a pill?

Step 2: Make time for yourselfAs women, we tend to “tend and befriend”, to focus on the needs of everyone else around us rather than our immediate issues. We feel “mommy guilt” for taking time to grow a business rather than put a band-aid on a booboo. In the evenings, I schedule bath time for myself. Bubbles, a good book (I recommend Healthy Selfishness by Drs. Rachael and Richard Heller), and I’m in heaven! Other “you time” can include scrapbooking, working on cars, sewing, candlemaking, or anything that will allow you an escape. Heck, even a good movie will work!

Step 3: Take care of yourselfYou can’t very well be of any use to others if you don’t take care of you! Getting proper nutrition, sleep, and exercising regularly (or at least, when you can) will make all the difference in the world in your energy levels, overall health, and even mental acuity!

Step 4: Talk to your friendsOften times, the women you surround yourself with (the like-minded ones) can be so therapeutic. Coffee and my best girlfriend are a recipe for laughter, destressing, and make for one relaxing morning. And finally…

Step 5: Don’t be afraid to be emotional!Picking your battles can be the fastest route to a stress-free environment. Most female entrepreneurs (myself included) find that when something doesn’t go our way, we rely more on our emotions than we should.

But that’s what’s so great about being a woman! Sometimes, a good cry is all it takes to get rid of whatever I’m trying to hold back. Then I can wipe away the tears and get back to my day. Sometimes, I just wanna yell. I do, feel better, and get back to what I’m doing.Whatever you do to eliminate stress in your life, do so with the knowledge that you’re not only contributing to your overall health, but you might actually be losing weight in the process!

Scratch Card Fundraising

Article by Kimberly Reynolds

Scratch card fundraising is one of the easiest fundraisers for youth sports teams and school groups. The basic premise of a scratch card fundraiser is simple.

Instead of selling a product, you ask supporters to scratch off a dot on a scratch card and then donate the amount revealed. In return, they receive a sheet of valuable coupons for supporting your fundraising effort.

Scratch Card DesignsScratch cards come in more than thirty different booklet designs including baseball, football, cheerleading, soccer, softball, band, and dozens more.

Cards are personalized with the name of your group on the cover and can even include a custom group logo for an additional fee.

Each booklet has two side flaps and folds into a convenient 4 x 6 inch pocket size. A tear-off pad of coupons is attached to the middle flap.

Raising FundsA scratch card fundraiser provides an easy way to ask for a small donation to support your team or activity. The average donation amount is around with each completed card raising 0 in donations.

Each donor receives a coupon sheet packed with discount offers from top merchants that are valued at up to 0. There’s a coupon for 35% off on movie tickets, a free sub from Quiznos, a two-for-one meal deal from A&W, off on an oil change from Jiffy Lube, and much more.

The valuable coupons make it easy for each seller to get a lot of donations because of the high perceived value of the coupons. After all, what adult wouldn’t give a kid a few dollars when they could easily save twice that much by using just a couple of the coupons?

Sales TipsThere’s an art to asking other people for money to support your cause. You need to do these three things:

1- Smile and look them in the eye. Hold out your scratch card booklet while doing this.

2 – Ask for their help and state why you are raising funds. Example: Can you help us with a small donation for new uniforms?

3 – Use the word ‘because’ since it is powerful psychological trigger word that subconsciously motivates people to answer your request for help. Example ‘Can you help us with a small donation for new uniforms because the old ones are worn out?

SummaryDoing a scratch card fundraiser is easy and convenient because there are no products to deliver. Plus, the coupons reward donors for their support and that makes the kids feel good about their fundraising activity.

With a 90% profit margin, scratch cards are hard to beat for sports team fundraisers. Take some time and evaluate their appeal. You’ll be positively surprised at how successful scratch card fundraising can be!

What To Purchase For ‘Hard To Buy For’ Teenagers: Gift Cards And More

Article by Chris Harmen

Most of us have at least a few teenagers in our family or circle of friends who we care about and may periodically buy presents for. In fact, between holidays, birthdays, graduations, and other special events, we may need to get presents for teenagers fairly frequently. Unfortunately, teens can be difficult to shop for. We don’t share the same taste in clothing, we may not be familiar with their favorite style of music, and many of the items teens want the most, such as cell phones with added features or complex media systems, are too expensive. There are some presents that are always appreciated by teens, however, if you know what to look for.

Gifting An Experience

Teens are always looking for a new and exciting way to spend their time. If you don’t want to buy a sweater that’s likely to be returned, or something practical but boring, consider providing an experience. For something truly unforgettable, check out websites that offer unique adventures such as a ride in a hot air balloon or a white water rafting trip. They’ll look forward to not only going on their adventure, but telling their friends about it afterward.

The cost of adventure trips through a company specializing in these kinds of activities can be expensive, but they are well worth it because they’re well organized with experienced group leaders. If you want something a bit less adventurous but still of interest to your teen, look around your area. Culinary schools often offer weekend classes for teens who love to cook. If the teen is a sports fan, contact the office of your city’s professional teams and ask if they offer any type of special celebration.

Or you could give them concert tickets or tickets to a theater show. You may even want to include yourself in the ‘experience’. Teens will enjoy having some special time to spend with you, and you can take pictures to give them at the end of the day.

Gift Cards Fit Their Lifestyle

Teens love gift cards, because they give them freedom of choice. They’ll enjoy the act of choosing an item they want and will remember you each time they wear the outfit they chose or listen to their new stereo. The key to successfully giving gift cards to teenagers is to know what they are most interested in and buy gift cards online that will fit those interests. You can now purchase gift cards online for just about any kind of store imaginable.

Gift cards for sporting good stores, electronics suppliers, bookstores, and shoe outlets are all popular options for teens. You favorite niece who loves shoes will appreciate getting a voucher that lets her splurge on a great new pair of leather boots. Your athletic grandson will be thrilled with a card that lets him buy some football or baseball gear. Think about the teen’s interests and buy gift cards online that he or she can redeem for the perfect present. Buying gift cards online will also save you from a long, protracted trip to the mall where you may be overwhelmed by the choices. You can even have the gift card you choose mailed directly to them with your good wishes if you like.

Electronic Media

Teens always seem to be short of money. They can only work part time and usually earn minimum wage, but their taste in clothing, accessories, electronics, and everything else leans toward the expensive end of the spectrum. It’s true that most teens have ‘champagne taste on a beer budget.’ If you’re feeling generous, you could surprise the teen in your life with the gift of a Kindle, a new video game system, or something else they could not afford on their own.

If you want to help them with a special purchase such as a new stereo system or DVD player, consider giving them a card to an electronics store or some other specialty store. You may not be able to give your teen a voucher in the full amount needed, but if you coordinate with friends and family, the value of each gift card will add up quickly. Your teen can use several gift cards together to make a substantial purchase instead of waiting for months to save up enough cash. The key is to communicate clearly and make sure everyone gets gift cards from the same place.

Whether you’re giving your teen a video game, tickets for a concert, or a gift card, if you’ve put some thought into it, the teen in your life will be thrilled with his or her present.
